Tamicka’s 50th Birthday - A Celebration of the Golden Hours | $3,500 Kempinski 5* based on double occupancy

28th, Jul 2023 - 4th, Aug 2023

Overview

Akwaaba chale (friend/family) welcome to GHANA! We’re excited to share Ghana with you through the eyes of Tamicka’s 50th Birthday - A celebration of the Golden Hours!

From the rich history and culture, to the delicious food, to the captivating and welcoming people, Ghana has quickly become one of Africa’s must see destinations.

In Ghana you can expect lush forests, diverse animal life, miles of sandy beaches along a picturesque coast, and monuments and castles filled with history. It is time for your ultimate eight (8) day experience to explore what this land has to offer and most importantly celebrate our girl Tamicka as she turns 50!

In this eight-day trip, you can expect to be immersed in the culture, experience some of Tamicka’s favorite Ghanaian spots, party at her favorite clubs, celebrate her by partying until the sunrises on her 50th Birthday and and leave with memories you will never forget. Prepare to leave Ghana with a few Twi words under your belt. Y3 ma wo Akwaaba! (We welcome you!)

Join us for Tamicka's Meraki Moment - Commissioning a Borehole for a Village on Thursday, August 3

Tamicka prides herself in Making a Difference by Living a Life that Outlives her. So she's added what she calls a "Meraki Moment" to all of her travels - in the spirit of having a servants heart.

Meraki is a word that she fell in love with when she was in 8th grade and then again during her travels through Greece in 2016. Meraki is a Greek word that means to leave something of yourself - your soul, creativity or love - in your work. To do something with passion, intention, purpose and leveraging you're full agency. This truly encompasses how Tamicka Lives her Life.

Tamicka says, as the late great Muhammad Ali said - "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth!" This is why she's excited about the commissioning of a Borehole (water well) for a local community to her Birthday Celebration.

Why you might ask? In some rural communities in Ghana, each day villagers have to obtain their water to cook, clean and bathe from a nearby, muddy, disease-infested ditch. The United Nations estimates that roughly 115 people in Africa die every hour from diseases linked to poor sanitation, hygiene and contaminated water.

The Borehole will provide villagers with endless supply of and to access safe drinking water, help to eliminate diseases caused by waterborne parasites such as diarrhea, malaria, cholera and high infant mortality rates in those communities. Fun fact - Tamicka completed her Master's Dissertation on ways to reduce infant mortality in underserved communities in Chicago. Thus, Tamicka's passion for equitable outcomes for all shouldn't be a surprise to any of you.

We invite you to contribute to this day of community service via the payment link. Your contributions can be made in increments of $50 up to $500. (Your contribution is completely optional - but greatly appreciated) Donate Here

Ghana is generally considered safe for travelers. However, as with any foreign country, it is important to be aware of pickpocketing and petty theft, especially in crowded tourist areas. It is also advisable to take precautions when using ATMs or carrying valuables, and to avoid walking alone in unfamiliar areas at night.

Option: Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) (https://step.state.gov/step/) to receive alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.

The official Ghana currency is the Ghanaian cedi, with a symbol GH₵ and a code GHS. Expect to see banknotes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 GH₵. Cash is definitely the best option for you, whenever possible.

You’ll be able to exchange dollars for Cedi at the hotel – usually better rates are offered for larger bills. Only newly issued USD are accepted. Yet, your best bet for a good rate may be cash withdrawal from ATMs. You can freely use a Visa and MasterCard in Ghana. American Express and Discover cards are rarely, if ever, accepted. Research the fees you may need to pay for using your credit card, as they can mount up. Use that opportunity to notify your bank of your travel plans, so they don’t cut you off for fear of fraud.

Bargaining and tipping are both expected. Outside of more formal establishments and supermarkets, you’ll often be offered goods for a price 30-50% higher than the seller actually expects to earn. So feel free to work on driving prices down, though within reason and good taste. Negotiation is the Ghanaian way! For services rendered well, such as excellent service at a restaurant or hotel, tips are encouraged.

We have an unlimited number of seats for this trip, the more the merrier.

All travelers aged 18 years and over are required to provide evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the point of embarkation and upon arrival into Ghana. The Ghana Health Service defines a fully vaccinated person as someone who has taken the full dose of vaccines approved and registered by the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana. This is one dose of Johnson and Johnson, or two doses of AstraZeneca (Covishield), Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Sputnik V. You will need to present your vaccination certificate before boarding and on arrival. Expect this certificate to be checked multiple times before leaving the airport, including on leaving the plane, at the health counter, at immigration, and on leaving the airport. You may choose to carry a hard copy of your certificate with you if you are unsure you will have access to the electronic version during your journey. There is no pre-travel or on arrival testing requirement if you are fully vaccinated.

If you’re a non-resident and you are not fully vaccinated you will not be granted entry into Ghana. Ground staff at your departure airport will not allow you to travel. Please visit; https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Ghana.html for more information

Yellow Fever vaccinations are required to enter Ghana. Yellow Fever shots are valid for 10 years once administered. Plan to get the vaccine at least 10 days before your travel since proof of vaccination is not valid until 10 days after getting the vaccine, the time needed to develop immunity to yellow fever virus. You must receive your vaccination no later than July 17th. Please note: Because one of the effects of the vaccination can be lowered immunity, it is suggested you receive your Yellow Fever vaccination 3 months prior to travel.

There are also a number of recommended vaccinations listed on https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/ghana. Be sure to consult your healthcare provider to consider what is best for you and your family and do your own research! We also love the idea of ensuring your immune system is at its peak and operating optimally while traveling. Take steps that feel right for you, under your healthcare provider’s guidance, to fortify and strengthen your system in ways you know works best for your body.

We also recommend you take Malaria medicines before arrival to Ghana. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist as to which tablets to take.

Missing a vacation is bad enough. Losing the money you paid for your vacation is even worse. Trip insurance is therefore recommended. You can purchase travel insurance on your own.

Sleeping arrangements vary depending on your package choice. For single occupancy selection you will be alone in your room at your hotel of choice. For double occupancy selection you will be paired with someone else and dependent on your request this could be a twin bed or double bed (which means you and your room buddy will share the same bed).

Our payment provider paystack accepts debit and credit cards from all over the world, given that they are issued by MasterCard, Visa and Verve
