Journey to Cape Coast: The Road to Our Ancestors
After check-out, we journey westward on a scenic drive to Cape Coast, Ghana’s first capital and a city deeply woven into the nation’s historical narrative. Upon arrival, our day begins with a visit to Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Monument and the oldest surviving European structure south of the Sahara. Built by the Portuguese in 1482, this historic fortress was the first trading post on the Gulf of Guinea. As we explore its grounds, we discover it's dark past as a hub of the slave trade and its impact on African history. The day concludes with a Traditional Naming Ceremony, a deeply symbolic rite that welcomes you into community and lineage. Rooted in ancestral customs, the ceremony is marked by prayers, libation, traditional drumming, and the giving of a name that reflects identity, purpose, and belonging. Guided by elders and surrounded by family and cultural custodians, this experience a powerful reconnection to heritage, ancestry, and the enduring spirit of home.
Day 4 : October 14th
Journey to Ashanti Kingdom
After breakfast, we check out and continue our journey inland toward Kumasi, the cultural heart of the Ashanti Kingdom. Along the way, we pause for a deeply moving and historically significant experience. Our first stop is the Assin Manso Slave River Site, a sacred place of remembrance closely tied to the history of the transatlantic slave trade. Known locally as Donkor Nsuo the “Slave River” this was the final bathing and resting point for enslaved Africans before their forced march to the coast and eventual confinement in the dungeons. Often referred to as the site of the Last Bath, Assin Manso stands today as a solemn space for reflection, honoring the resilience, suffering, and humanity of those who passed through it. In 1998, the site took on renewed significance when it became the reburial ground for the remains of two formerly enslaved Africans one from the United States and another from Jamaica—ceremoniously returned to Ghana during the nation’s first Emancipation Day commemoration. Their return transformed Assin Manso into a powerful symbol of remembrance, reconnection, and ancestral homecoming. This meaningful stop offers a moment of quiet reflection before we continue onward to Kumasi, carrying forward a deeper understanding of history, identity, and legacy.
Day 5 : October 15th
Ashanti Craft Villages
We continue our journey through the Ashanti Kingdom with immersive encounters that celebrate its living traditions and artistic heritage. Our day begins in Adanwomase, the historic center of Kente weaving. Here, master craftsmen introduce the centuries-old process behind Ghana’s most iconic textile once reserved exclusively for royalty. Guests will observe the intricate weaving techniques and enjoy a rare, hands-on moment at the loom, creating a meaningful connection to this revered cultural art form. From Adanwomase, we visit a nearby cocoa farm to explore the origins of Ghana’s world-renowned cocoa. Guided through each stage of cultivation, from pod to bean, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the care, tradition, and craftsmanship behind one of the country’s most important exports. The experience offers insight into the agricultural heritage that continues to shape Ghana’s global identity. Our cultural exploration continues in Ntonso, famed for its Adinkra cloth and symbolic motifs that communicate philosophy, values, and storytelling. Guests will learn the meanings behind these symbols and create a personalized keepsake by stamping selected designs onto cloth. The day concludes at the Manhyia Palace Museum, former seat of the Ashanti Kings. Here, royal regalia, historic artifacts, and oral histories bring to life the legacy of one of Africa’s most powerful and organized kingdoms an enduring symbol of tradition, authority, and cultural pride.
