To enter Tanzania, travelers must possess a valid passport and a visa. Depending on your nationality, you may obtain a visa upon arrival or apply for an e-visa beforehand. Ensure your passport has at least six months of validity from your departure date.

Tanzania is generally considered safe for travelers. However, as with any foreign country, it is important to be aware of pickpocketing and petty theft, especially in crowded tourist areas. It is also advisable to take precautions when using ATMs or carrying valuables and to avoid walking alone in unfamiliar areas at night.

The currency in Tanzania is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS). Credit cards are not widely accepted, so it's advisable to carry cash. You are encouraged to bring dollars and change your currency with a local forex bureau. ATMs are available in major cities but may not always be reliable. The local "Bureau de Changers" will assist you with changing your currencies to the local currencies.

Tanzania requires all visitors over one year of age coming from or transiting through yellow fever endemic countries to present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. This precautionary measure aims to prevent the spread of the disease.
Travellers coming directly from countries where Yellow Fever is non-endemic are exempt from the yellow fever vaccination requirement. Travellers from non-endemic countries who transit a yellow fever-endemic country for longer than 12 hours are required to produce a yellow fever vaccination certificate. It is advisable to check for any recent changes in the exemption list before traveling.
Tanzania has many popular tourist destinations, each with its own weather patterns. It is usually hot and semi-arid, with temperatures around 25 to 36 °C all year round. The rainy season is from July to October and it can be very humid with occasional thunderstorms.
Tanzania has a generally comfortable climate year-round, although there are significant regional variations. The tropical coast stays quite hot and humid with heavy and reliable rainfall, especially during the rainy season.
- A money belt: Due to the amount of pickpocketing that occurs, a money belt will allow you to keep your money and passport safe.
- Bug spray: The climate in Tanzania is hot and humid, meaning there are plenty of bugs, including mosquitoes.
- An inhaler (if you have respiratory problems): Due to all the sand in the area, some individuals may notice their respiratory issues becoming more severe.
- Walking shoes or sandals—there are lots of places to explore and a good pair of shoes will keep your feet from hurting at the end of the day.
Zanzibar now has a mandatory, non-refundable $44 payment per person for inbound travel insurance when entering Zanzibar which covers you for 92 days in the country. Inbound Travel insurance cover for unexpected medical illness or any other uncertainties while travelers are in Tanzania. The basic covers provided are the cost of emergency medical expenses and repatriation expenses (body and medical), personal accident, baggage delay, theft and lost, legal expenses, personal liabilities etc.
